El Oro is one of the country's former mining glories and is known to be “Magical Town”. Founded in the 18th century, it grew thanks to the reputation of mines such as La Esperanza, El Consuelo and La Providencia. The gold rush attracted people from all over the world, particularly English companies. Its constructions reflect all the European styles of the time, like the Juárez Theater and the Municipal Palace that stand out for their decoration and art nouveau and neoclassical styles.

El Oro has a picturesque train station, inaugurated in 1889, and a Mining Museum, which preserves the machinery and memory of its people through photography. One place you should not miss is the Chapel of Santa María de Guadalupe, with a closed atrium full of roses.

The surroundings of El Oro are covered by lush pine and cedar forests, where the Brockman and Victoria Dams are located, as well as one of the monarch butterfly sanctuaries.
