Zipolite means Beach of the Dead in Zapotec. It is said that the ancient settlers buried their dead there and that later the place would become a fertile land destined for immortality. In the ‘60s, this destination became popular among hippies and foreigners. More recently, it’s recognized because Mexican films like Y tu mamá también were filmed here.
